Elderly Couple Involved in Serious Single-Car Crash in Cumming

car accident

Police from Cumming responded to a single-car accident this week involving a 2015 Nissan Murano. The car was driving in the Westbound lanes of GA-9 Thursday evening. For some reason, the man driving the car lost control his vehicle. The car veered off to the North shoulder of the road. It came to rest in a culvert.

When police arrived on the scene, the driver and his passenger were both visibly injured. The driver, 68-year old Bobby Chaffin was taken to the hospital. He was in the hospital and held on to the next day until he sadly passed away from his injuries.

The driver’s wife, 68-year old Judy Chaffin was also in the vehicle when it crashed into the culvert. She was injured at the scene and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. At the time this report was released, she was still in the hospital. There was no indication whether she was expected to survive her injuries or not.

The police are still not sure what caused Chaffin to lose control of his car and ride off the road. It could’ve been a medical condition. Or there could’ve been something wrong with the car. There were no witnesses to the crash and the police have no idea what happened. Perhaps if Mrs. Chaffin survives her injuries, she will be able to let the police know exactly what happened.

The police are still conducting their investigation. We imagine they will do toxicology reports, even though there was no mention that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the family may have a potential legal claim. If you’re loved one is hurt or killed in a crash, call our office in Georgia right away.
