On Saturday, January 2nd, a fatal car crash in Atlanta claimed a veteran police officer’s life. News reports on the occurrence revealed the male victim was helping out at an earlier collision scene when an oncoming vehicle struck him.
The reports disclosed that the 22-year-old vet of the DeKalb Police Department, Sgt. Daniel Mobley responded to a crash involving another officer on the Downtown Connector. According to Police Chief Mirtha Ramos, the victim had just arrived at the accident scene and was about to conduct a supervisory investigation when a Ford Focus struck him as he alighted from his vehicle.
The Georgia State Patrol said the Ford Focus driver lost control of the vehicle, then struck a concrete wall before hitting Mobley and his car. Ramos said it was a sad day for the DeKalb Police as they lost one of their guardian angels.
The Police Chief added that they would miss the victim dearly, and their hearts go out to his family. Mobley joined the force in 1998 and became a sergeant in 2017. He was a devoted father to his son and worked on his car while not serving his city.
There is no information on the liability of the Ford Focus driver at the time of this report. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
