The police in Augusta received a call about a two-car collision that took place on October 24. The call came into the station at 10:24 pm. The officers rushed to the scene of the Columbia County head-on collision along with members of the Gold Cross AMS.
By the time the officers reached the scene, they were able to piece together what had happened. A 43-year-old woman from Harlem was traveling in the Eastbound lanes of Harlem Groveton Road. She was driving a 2006 Chrysler 300 at the time of the crash. She was attempting to navigate the curve near the intersection of Cawley Road and Caroleton Road when tragedy struck.
Another woman – Prescilla Johnson – was driving her Chevy Tahoe along the same stretch of Harlem Groveton Road. For some reason, as she approached the curve, the driver of the Tahoe lost control of her SUV and crossed the center line.
Johnson ended up crashing into the Chrysler head-on. By the time the police arrived on the scene, the victim, Kifiney Harris, had already succumbed to her injuries. The Columbia County coroner pronounced her dead at the scene. The authorities have ordered that an autopsy be conducted in Atlanta this week.
The driver of the Chevy Tahoe was transported to Doctor’s Hospital by Gold Cross AMS. She was said to have sustained what were described as significant injuries. There has been no update on her condition since the initial report was filed.
The investigation into the Columbia County head-on collision and what caused it is still ongoing. Typically, in cases like this, the police do run toxicology tests. If they discover that Johnson was under the influence at the time of the crash, the victim’s family may have a legal claim.
