Tractor Trailer Crash Claims Life of Mother and Child in Macon

Tractor Trailer Crash

A fatal tractor trailer crash took place this past weekend. A woman was traveling in the Northbound lanes of Interstate-75 at about 3:30 am. She was supposed to be heading home to Orlando, Florida so her family isn’t sure why she was headed North. Alisha Young was driving her minivan near mile marker 125. She had her two children in the back of her minivan – Malakai Young and 2-year old Kayden.

Witnesses report that Young was in the right lane and was traveling very slow. This could have been because she was lost or maybe she was just tired. A semi-truck approached from behind and tried to slow down as to avoid hitting the slow-moving vehicle. They swerved to avoid the van.

While the first tractor trailer managed to avoid hitting Young’s vehicle, a second truck also approached. The big rig ended up hitting the minivan from behind, sending it spinning along the highway.

Young’s car ended up running off the right side of the road. The police said that car was totally destroyed by the time they got there. Alisha Young was pronounced death at the scene. So was her son, Malakai.

Her other son, Kayden, was in the backseat of the van. The child was airlifted to a local hospital in Macon. The child’s family said that the child is expected to be okay.

The names of the drivers of the tractor trailers have not yet been released. Nor has the name of the companies they work for. The investigation is still ongoing.

Young’s family said they really have no idea why she was traveling in that direction. The last they heard, she was trying to make it home by the next day.
