What started as a police chase ended in a multi-vehicle crash in southwest Atlanta. The accident occurred on Friday afternoon, December 3rd. Speed appears to have played a role in the occurrence.
A news report disclosed that a Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted a traffic stop on the driver of a Dodge Durango for an equipment violation. This was at about 3:50 p.m. The driver refused to stop traveling southbound on Peters Street and through Lee Street into oncoming traffic.
The state patrol said the driver weaved in and out of traffic. While trying to shake off the authorities, the driver entered the eastbound lane of Dill Avenue. The SUV then traveled through a red light where Dill Avenue intersects with Sylvan Road.
The SUV struck the driver’s side of a Subaru Forester and continued through the intersection. The vehicle struck a Toyota Corolla, and the impact caused the car to flip. The state patrol said medics rushed all the passengers in the Subaru and the Toyota to Grady Hospital to treat undisclosed injuries.
The SUV driver tried to flee after the multi-vehicle crash in southwest Atlanta but was immediately taken into custody. The 24-year-old man now faces charges of serious injury by motor vehicle, felony fleeing, reckless driving, speeding, and DUI.
In crashes of this nature, aside from the criminal charges filed against the fault driver, the victim or victims can file a personal injury lawsuit. The latter is a civil action in which the victims (plaintiffs) demand financial compensation for the injuries and financial losses suffered in the crash. The law classifies this as economic and non-economic damages.
Filing a personal injury lawsuit requires the expertise of an Atlanta car accident lawyer. So were you involved in an auto crash? Contact Calvin Smith Law today.
