Police in Cobb County have confirmed that one person is dead after one car struck another while racing.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Joseph Youngs of Acworth.
The crash took place around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday along Shiloh Road close to Tweed Drive.
Investigators indicated that a 1999 Toyota Solara was racing against a 2012 Acura TL when the driver of the Solara attempted to pass the Acura on a double yellow line.
The Solara struck a 2014 Nissan Altima head-on then spun around. The Acura then crashed into the driver’s side of the Solara.
Youngs was the driver of the Solara and he became trapped inside the vehicle. The Cobb County Fire Department had to extricate him, and he subsequently died at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.
Youngs’ passenger, 20-year-old Acworth resident Megan McQueen, was taken to Kennestone Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The Acura’s driver, 22-year-old Neville Ryan of Kennesaw is now facing charges of first-degree vehicular homicide and reckless driving. He was booked into the Cobb County Jail.
Thirty-year-old Rogdre Hazle, who was driving the Altima, was also taken to Kennestone Hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.

Illegal street racing is becoming increasingly popular in recent months.
Earlier in August, it was revealed that Atlanta’s City Council was cracking down on the activity which involves reckless driving and leads to blocked intersections.
Officials said racers, organizers, and spectators would be penalized.
Atlanta council member Michael Bond said the aim was to deter bad behavior.
