A young man from Rincon, Georgia lost his life this week in a fatal crash in Effingham County. Police responded to the single-car crash on Zittrouer Road on Monday, May 11, 2020. It was about 5 pm when they got a call that a vehicle had crashed and overturned outside a home on Zittrouer Road.
16-year old Franklin Davis was traveling on the Westbound lanes of Zittrouer when he approached a slight curve in the road. For some reason, he wasn’t able to negotiate the turn and ended up driving his car off the right side of the road.
Davis first hit a mailbox on the side of the road outside of 906 Zittrouer Road. He proceeded to crash into two more mailboxes before he hit a culvert. His vehicle ended up going airborne and finally landing on the side of the road.
Davis wasn’t the only one in the car at the time of the crash. He had three other young people in the car with him. All three of his passengers were seriously injured in the crash. One was even listed as being in critical condition. The passengers included 13-year old Kassidy Avery from Rincon and 16-year old Cutter Avery from Rincon. The third passenger was 19-year old Darius Prescott from Guyton, Georgia.
Prescott wasn’t wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the car. He was taken to the hospital along with the other two passengers. The driver, Franklin Davis, was also transported to the hospital. Sadly, the teen did not survive his injuries.
The weather was clear so that didn’t contribute to the crash. The police are still investigating the matter.
