The police responded to a tragic two-car accident in Lawrenceville this weekend. The crash happened near the intersection of Lawrenceville Highway and Church Road. It involved 2 cars. Both of the cars sustained significant damage in the crash.
21-year old Josue Hernandez-Cano was traveling North on Lawrenceville Highway in his grey Infiniti G37. At the same time, 20-year old Alvero Gonzalez was driving in the opposite direction. He was driving a white Acura TSX.
Gonzalez was trying to make a left-hand turn from James Road onto Lawrenceville Highway. For some reason, both vehicles ended up swerving at the same time. Gonzalez swerved left while Cano swerved right. Both drivers seemed a bit confused at which was the best way to turn at the moment of impact.
The two vehicles eventually collided and smashed into each other. The Infiniti ended up leaving the road and crashed into a tree head-on. Cano, who had no passengers in the car at the time of the crash, was killed instantly. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gonzalez and his one passenger managed to escape the crash without injury. The police didn’t indicate if any of the drivers or passengers had their seatbelts on at the time of the accident.
The crash is still under investigation. The accident happened at about 8 pm so there was no presumption that either of the drivers were under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time. And, there is no indication that impairment played a role in the crash.
So far, there have been no charges filed against Gonzalez. However, that may change once the accident investigation is over.
