Usually, when there’s a tractor trailer accident in Georgia, the police expect the worst. Often times, these crashes end up in very serious injuries. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case this week in Gwinnett County. However, the police would spend hours cleaning up the wreckage after a crash involving a truck carrying vidalia onions.
On Saturday, at about 10:40 am, police responded to a messy crash on GA Highway 316 near the intersection of Buford Drive. The crash happened in the Westbound lanes. A tractor trailer carrying vidalia onions was traveling in the Westbound lane when they crashed into another vehicle.
The second vehicle was another trailer carrying a bulldozer. The bulldozer was on top of a flatbed. When the trucks collided, they ended up erupting into flames. By the time the cops got there, the tractor trailer was burning so badly, the cab and the trailer were both destroyed. The second vehicle also was on fire and sustained heavy damage.
Thankfully, neither of the drivers were injured in the crash. And there were no other vehicles involved. The police did have to shut down the Westbound lanes of GA 316 while they cleaned up the debris. They also had to spend hours cleaning up smashed onions on the road.
Traffic was redirected so nobody else would get hurt. It is unusual to have a tractor trailer crash with no injuries. That seemed to be the case here. The names of the drivers have not been released. Nor have the names of the companies they worked for.
The police are still investigating the crash to determine what may have caused it. Given the fact that it was in the middle of the afternoon, there was no mention of drugs or alcohol being a factor.
