A male motorist faces criminal charges following a fatal accident in Milledgeville, Baldwin County. The accident happened early Wednesday morning, November 10th. Failure to maintain a lane appeared to have caused the accident.
In a press release, the Milledgeville Police Department said the crash happened around 5:36 a.m. in the area of North Carolina Street and Marshall Road. The preliminary investigation disclosed that a 2000 Dodge Dakota driven by Trey Aaron Ramage, 35, was southbound on North Carolina Street. He crossed over the centerline of the roadway into the northbound lane.
The act caused the Dodge to collide head-on with a 2005 Nissan Altima driven by Kelly Butler. The police said Butler died at the accident scene. The investigators noted that they charged Ramage with reckless driving and driving under the influence based on the information they gathered during the investigation.
The man also faces charges of failure to maintain lane and two counts of homicide by a motor vehicle, a first-degree felony. The police took Ramage into custody on Thursday evening, November 11th, and transported him to the Baldwin County Jail. There is no additional information about the fatal accident in Milledgeville at this time.
When a motor vehicle accident ends in the death of the person who did not cause the crash, their legal beneficiaries are entitled to damages. If the victim lived, they would have filed a personal injury claim. The deceased’s beneficiaries can still commence the wrongful death claim irrespective of a criminal charge against the fault driver.
If the claims succeed, the legal beneficiaries can get economic and non-economic damages. Unfortunately, the compensation claims process is not quite straightforward and requires the expertise of a Georgia car accident attorney.
