Four people, including a 4-year-old child, suffered different injuries following an Athens traffic collision. The accident occurred on Wednesday morning, August 25th. The crash report showed distracted driving might have caused the accident.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a tow truck northbound on Athens Highway south of Priest Circle negotiated a curve at about 7:17 a.m. The driver, Michael Morgan, 46, of Buckhead, told state troopers that he looked away to check his GPS. When he returned his eyes to the road, he was in the oncoming lane.
Morgan then struck a passenger car operated by 29-year-old Jessica Posten of Gainesville with its front. The Athens traffic collision caused the vehicle to rotate clockwise before coming to a rest facing north in the southbound lane against a guardrail. The tow truck rested facing the same direction.
The GSP said that after the impact, a piece of debris struck another vehicle heading south. No one in the third car sustained injuries. However, Morgan suffered a minor injury and received treatment at the crash scene. Posten sustained what the troopers described as a suspected serious injury.
The 4-year-old sustained severe wounds and an air ambulance conveyed the child to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Another minor, a 12-year-old, sustained minor injuries. Hall County EMS the juvenile and Posten to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
The GSP said they charged Morgan with failure to maintain lane, distracted driving, and no seatbelt. There is no additional information.
