One person lost their life after a two-vehicle collision in Cobb County. The traffic wreck happened on Thursday morning, August 2nd. According to the Cobb County Police Department, the accident occurred when a vehicle crossed the centerline.
The two-vehicle collision in Cobb County took place at approximately 10:19 a.m. near the intersection of Hurt and Brook Roads. According to the police, a 2007 black Chevrolet Cobalt was westbound on Hurt Road. Simultaneously, a 2015 Toyota Avalon was eastbound on the same roadway, heading towards the intersection with Brooks Road.
The investigators said the Chevrolet failed to maintain its lane after crossing the centerline. As a result, the vehicle drove into the concrete curb and guardrail before colliding with the Toyota. Medics transported the drivers, 68-year-old Gail McGill Draper of Marietta, and 66-year-old Cuc Chi Tran, of Marietta, to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.
Cobb County Police said Tran survived with non-life-threatening injuries while Draper passed away while undergoing treatment. The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit of the CCPD heads the investigation into the occurrence.
Motor vehicle accidents either end in minor, severe, or fatal injuries. Some severe injuries can lead to permanent damages affecting the victim’s quality of life. Thankfully, Georgia is a fault-based compensation state meaning that crash victims can get monetary compensation for their accident injuries.
The victim would commence a compensation claim with the fault party’s insurance provider. The insurance company can either pay them, reject the claim, or offer a low settlement. When the last two happen, the victim can file a lawsuit to recover damages from the at-fault party. The best way to do the latter is through an attorney.
